“BUILDING BRIDGES – GOODWILL & FRIENDSHIP”
APRIL 26 – 28        THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO

Our District Conference in 2018 will be in Thunder Bay hosted by the four Canadian Clubs in our District – Nipigon Rotary, Fort William Rotary, Port Arthur Rotary, and Lakehead Rotary.  The theme for our Conference has been chosen – “Building Bridges…Goodwill & Friendship” – acknowledging Rotary International and the capacity of Rotary, Rotary Clubs and Rotarians around the world to “make a difference” through goodwill and friendship…and the application of human and financial resources when needed.  We will share some news in Cross Currents each month right up to the Conference.  In the last edition we shared the story of the Outlaw Bridge and the evolution of our Conference theme.  This month, we offer a preview of our plans for the all-important “Ice Breaker”...

We will gather at the Sleeping Giant Brewing Company in the centre of Thunder Bay.  Located on the largest freshwater lake in the world, Sleeping Giant Brewing Company’s craft beers are inspired by Lake Superior and the northern wildness with its rich Canadian heritage. The brewery is just a few minutes from Canada Malting Co., meaning both water and malt are sourced locally.   Since 2012, after much experimenting, tasting and testing, the craft brewery began preparing its magic through carefully considered recipes. Sleeping Giant Brewing Company produces a distinctive line-up of easy drinking, full-flavoured beer with the perfect balance of deliciousness, attitude and northern provenance.  I would love to tell you about each and every brew made by the team at Sleeping Giant but in the interest of space, here is the link to their brew page where you may read about them at your leisure:

The Sleeping Giant Brewery has a large assembly/party area and our Ice Breaker will include many tasty treats prepared and served up by one of the most popular local catering companies – Daytona’s.  SLB plans to do up a special brew for our Conference and the label will feature the Outlaw Bridge.  The evening would not be complete without entertainment and we will be treated to the music of James Boraski & Momentary Evolution with a mix of roots, rock and blues.  A great evening to start up our Conference and “break the ice”.  Make plans to join us in Thunder Bay next April and if you don’t already have a passport, this would be a good time to start the process.  Look for our feature article in the November edition of Cross Currents when we will introduce you to our keynote and event speakers.
Cheers!        Clint Kuschak, Conference Committee
