Letter from Blaine Johnson, District Governor Elect

12-29-2017

Dear Rotarians of District 5580,

The Rotary clubs in our district have many outstanding past presidents making a difference in their clubs and communities. Serving as District Governor is an opportunity for these committed Rotarians to bring the same leadership, skills and vision to District 5580. Now is the time for your club to nominate an outstanding Past President for District Governor 2020-21.  Your club’s nomination is due no later than January 19, 2018.

In addition to service to Rotary, serving as governor is an opportunity for a Rotarian’s personal growth through many new experiences, before, during, and after the governor year.  For example, District 5580 sends the District Governor Nominee to the Central States Rotary Youth Exchange Conference, and the District Governor Elect and spouse/partner are sent to the Rotary International Convention (2020 is held in Honolulu, Hawaii).  In addition, all District Governors and spouse/partners attend the International Assembly in San Diego, California to receive in depth training.  As District Governor, you have the opportunity to network with Rotarians from across the world and create lasting friendships. Past District Governors may be appointed to Rotary International committees and resource groups, may be invited to represent the RI President at other districts’ conferences, serve as the district’s delegate to the Council on Legislation, as trustees of the Rotary Foundation or even as a Director of Rotary International.

The nominating committee requests that your club consider which of your Past Presidents would be great leaders for our District and share this announcement with them.  If they feel they can make this commitment, we encourage you to nominate them for this important office.

To nominate a Past President, clubs must pass a resolution. A draft resolution for club use is attached, and is also on the District 5580 website in the information packet.  The candidate must complete the Data Form also included in the information packet.

If you have questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact me, Debra Warner, Rick Bricker or any of our outstanding Past District Governors (they all love to reminisce about their time as DG!).  Candidate interviews will be held January 27, 2018 in Walker, Minnesota.

We look forward to receiving your nomination.

Blaine T. Johnson
District Governor 2018-19
