February is often framed around love and connection-so this month, our Eco-Challenge is all about showing a little extra love to the planet. Small intentional actions add up, especially when Rotarians act together.
Your February Eco-Challege:
Choose at least three of the actions below and commit to practicing them throughout February and into March until your next challenge arrives.
Eat with intention. Try one or more plant-based meals each week. Reducing meat consumption slightly can significantly lower GHG emissions, and water use.
Cut the energy creep. February is peak heating season. Take one concrete step to reduce energy use at home: lower your thermostat by 1-2 C, seal drafts, or unplug electronics when not in use. These small changes save energy and reduce emissions.
Give the planet some love this Valentine’s Day by considering sustainable packaging for gifts to your loved ones. Support local restaurants with sustainable practices. Support your local community and reduce your carbon footprint by shopping at farmer’s markets.
Ditch single use plastics. Challenge yourself to go plastic-free for one week or longer. Say no to unnecessary packaging. Notice how often plastic shows up in daily life and where easy substitutions can be made.
Support local and sustainably. Buy local and support businesses with strong environmental practices. Keeping dollars local often reduces environmental impact.
Speak up and share hope. Have one conversation this month about environmental protection or climate action-at your Rotary club meetings or with a neighbour. Think of solutions.
This February, let’s show that love isn’t just something we say but something we practice for each other and for the planet.
