Submitted by: Herbert Schmidt, PDG 2016-17, Vice Governor 2018-19, International Service Chair

The District International Service Chair (DISC) is a newly created position, under the District Rotary Foundation Chair (DRFC), at the request of RI president Ian Riseley.  I have been appointed to implement this program in our district. The job description for this position has not yet been fully developed, however these are the preliminary areas of focus.
  • Contacting and offering help to all club international service chairs in the district
  • Promoting international projects, especially through global grants
  • Assisting clubs in gathering the needed information for a successful global grant
  • Helping to gather the expertise needed to plan and execute a global grant
  • Gathering information about potential international projects from RI and other sources and disseminate to the clubs that need it.
  • Supporting clubs by gathering and vetting international  service project requests.
  • Promoting and supporting  participation in Rotary Action and Fellowship groups
Developing a database with information such as potential partners for international projects, local and international contacts with expertise in various fields, ways and means of doing community assessments, and bringing together sources and expertise in our district that can help expedite global grants is the initial step. Your help would be very much appreciated. I will be contacting the Club International Service Chairs to find what their needs are and also to find local sources of expertise.

In Rotary Service,
Herb Schmidt
