Submitted by: Dan Hegstad, Brainerd Rotary Public Image ChairOn a warm Friday evening in September, over 130 Rotarians and friends gathered at a real castle to feast, frolic and raise money for Rotary. Queen Carol presided over “The Queen’s Feast” which was held at a real castle at the Parker Scout Reserve on North Long Lake just north of Brainerd, Minnesota. Even though Boy Scout years were quite some time ago for many Rotarians, the castle was still a fun adventure for all. Next year King William will host “The King’s Feast.”
This was Brainerd Rotary’s third feast event at the castle. Year one Rotarians rassled with lobsters and last year huge beef steaks were consumed with great gusto! This year Chef Mike prepared slow-roasted pork and chicken.
Rotarian Lady Ruth saw that the royal court was appropriately togged. A Court Jester costume was reluctantly donned by Fool Kevin who promised to wear it only if lofty financial goals were met. They were. He did.
Music was by the Rockin’ Hill band which includes Rotarian Adam on guitar. All agreed Santana on guitar rather than lute was a reasonable accommodation to modern tastes.The dinner and raffle raised about $7000 for our foundation and will go to support local, regional and international endeavors.
