6 million children, the number vaccinated of Rotary’s first effort in the Philippines in 1979.  650,000, the number of paralytic cases of polio prevented each year.  2, the number of countries that are still endemic  (Pakistan and Afghanistan).  3,the number of types of polio.  Type 2 polio has not been in the wild since 1999 and type 3 has not been seen since 2012.  74, the number of polio cases reported in 2015.  37, the number reported in 2016.  22, the number reported in 2017.  5, the number of cases reported YTD as of March 22  in 2018.
 
50,000,000, the number of dollars we need to raise to meet the Bill and Melinda Gates challenge to match our efforts two for one.  1,200,000, the number of Rotarians.  $41.60, the number if every Rotarian gave this amount, we would reach our challenge.  Zero, our goal for the for the Polio eradication effort that we started with a promise to the world’s children in 1979.  3, the number of years without a case of polio before we can declare the world polio free.    17.4 million, the number paralytic cases of polio prevented since we began.  25 million, the number new births in India alone.  ALL, the number of children that need to be immunized until the world is indeed polio free.  This is polio by the numbers.
