Planting the Kids Garden – Environmental Education that Keeps on Giving
The earlier in life that “City” kids learn how the food that they eat is grown, the more likely they will be to pay attention to food related environmental issues. Especially if they had fun planting, watering, harvesting, and then eating the fruits of their labor.
During the pandemic the Duluth YMCA asked the Skyline Club to build raised bed gardens for their early childhood family education and summer camp kids to grow vegetables. This Spring Club members helped the kids to plant the “Spaghetti Garden”. This Fall the vegetables will be harvested and used to make a spaghetti dinner for the kids and their parents.
Please watch the very cute kids in the video as they plant their garden, and consider building a raised bed Kids Garden in your community.
