Nominations for District Governor 2022-2023


District 5580 is now calling for nominations for the office of District Governor for the Rotary year 2022-2023, and qualified Rotarians may submit a nomination for consideration by the District Nominating Committee.  The Nominee must submit the following documents:                                                                                                                                  


                              1. Governor-Nominee Data Form;

                              2. Curriculum Vitae to accompany Governor-Nominee Data Form;

                              3. Resolution adopted by Nominee’s Rotary Club;

                              4. Consent to Background Check by Nominee; and

                              5. Photo of Nominee (head and shoulders) in .jpeg format, if emailed.


The above documents must be received no later than October 4, 2019.

Please take time to review the Qualification Guidelines set forth below, as you will want to make certain your nominee meets the criteria prior to submitting his/her nomination. Following receipt of all nominations, the District Nominating Committee will schedule interviews with each nominee at a specified time. Interviews will be held at Timberlake Lodge in Staples , MN on Saturday, October 26, 2019. 


Should your club wish to submit the name of a nominee for this important position, please make sure that he/she is fully aware of the restriction that prohibits campaigning and electioneering as specified in the RI Manual of Procedure and Bylaws.




16.070. Qualifications of a Governor-nominee.

Unless specifically excused by the board, no person shall be selected as nominee for governor unless the Rotarian has the following qualifications at the time of selection.


16.070.1. Rotarian in Good Standing.

The Rotarian must be a member in good standing of a functioning club in the district.


16.070.2. Rotarian Maintaining Full Qualifications of Membership.

The Rotarian must have full qualifications for such membership in the strict application of the provisions therefor, and the integrity of the Rotarian’s classification must be without question.


16.070.3. Rotarian’s Qualification as Past President of Club.

The Rotarian must have served as president of a club for a full term or be a charter president of a club having served the full term from the date of charter to 30 June, provided that this period is at least six months.


16.070.4. Rotarian’s Ability to Fulfill Duties of Governor.

The Rotarian must demonstrate willingness, commitment, and ability, physically and otherwise, to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the office of governor as provided in section 16.090.


16.070.5. Rotarian’s Certification of Qualifications. The Rotarian must demonstrate knowledge of the qualifications, duties, and responsibilities of governor as prescribed in the bylaws and submit to RI, through its general secretary, a signed statement that the Rotarian understands clearly such qualifications, duties, and responsibilities. Such statement shall also confirm that the Rotarian is qualified for the office of governor and willing and able to assume the duties and responsibilities of that office and to perform them faithfully.


16.080. Qualifications of a Governor.

Unless specifically excused by the board, a governor at the time of taking office must have attended the international assembly for its full duration, been a member of one or more Rotary clubs for at least seven years, and must continue to possess the qualifications in section 16.070.


The nominee understands that campaigning, canvassing and electioneering is prohibited. (Note:  This policy is in place to protect a nominee from a possible challenge of his/her nomination.)


The nominee must agree to a background check upon submission of his/her nomination, with the results to be shared only with the nominating committee prior to the nominee’s interview. The District will be responsible for securing the background check and the payment of any fees associated therewith.
