We are excited to officially confirm there will be a District 5580 Camp RYLA this year. The 29th Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Program is scheduled for July 10-16, 2022 at the University of MN Crookston Campus. While it’s been two years since RYLA was held, the team is ready to put on a great RYLA with minimal changes from the previous curriculum and activities. It’s time to dust off our RYLA recruitment actions!
What is RYLA and the Rotary Club role?
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) provides student leaders an opportunity to expand and hone their leadership skills at a one week seminar called Camp RYLA, which is staffed and operated by volunteer facilitators. Camp RYLA's objectives are:
- Recruit outstanding young men and women in your community for Camp RYLA (January - March)
- Organize RYLA Club Committee to select camper(s) to represent your club (April)
- Submit selected camper names and information by April 30 deadline (April)
- Plan and coordinate your club’s RYLA program soon after the completion of camp.

KEY THINGS TO KNOW:

- Camper sponsorship fee is $500.
- We highly encourage campers to be vaccinated and will require a COVID-19 test showing a negative result within 3-days prior to arrival for all attendees (campers and staff). Information on testing resources is available here.

Please send ALL CHECKS to our District Treasurer: Elaine Hansen, Treasurer District 5580 Rotary, 133 Summit St, Apt. 401, Duluth, MN 55803. Indicate in the memo this is for RYLA. We are limited to 134 spots on a first come first serve basis. No refunds are available after March 31.
April 30, 2022 - Selected Campers Submitted
- Direct students to http://district5580ryla.org to complete the application in the potential campers section.
- Students receive an email with a copy of their completed application, which parents/guardians can then sign, and turn into your club representative.
- The club representative must submit their selected campers via this form to the district: https://goo.gl/forms/I1HQmlm3E7jwZmQS2
- Only online submissions will be accepted. Any paper forms used are outdated and not approved by the district.
You will not be collecting medical and liability forms. Once students are selected the RYLA team will reach out to the students for completion of these forms.
RECRUITMENT IDEAS:
- Connect with school counselors, coaches, music directors, youth group leaders and encourage them to nominate students who are ready to enhance their leadership capabilities.
