Blaine Johnson, District Governor 2018-2019November is a time of Thanksgiving. It is also a time to celebrate the wonderful work of The Rotary Foundation. Established “for the purpose of doing good in the world,” the Foundation continues to fulfill its purpose.
The Rotary Foundation is a unique foundation. Our Foundation is led by Rotarians. Our Foundation is supported by the contributions of Rotarians and Rotary Clubs. Our Foundation partners with Rotary Clubs to support Rotarian projects across the globe. Perhaps you see the common thread there – Rotary.
This isn’t just The Rotary Foundation, it is our foundation.
It addresses needs identified by Rotarians both across the globe and in our own backyards. It provides the economic means to accomplish our ideals so that we as individuals can make a difference. I often describe The Rotary Foundation as the economic engine behind our successes. But with any engine, a fuel source is necessary. Our foundation would not be successful without the generous contributions of Rotarians and those that believe in what we do. For those that contribute to our foundation, THANK YOU!
This is also an opportune time to acknowledge that we as a District can do better. We are very fortunate and have been blessed in many ways. We can and should make our Rotary Foundation more of a priority.
- Only half of our clubs have entered the Club’s Foundation goals in Rotary Club Central this year.
- Last year 13 of our clubs made no contribution to the Annual Fund at all.
We are called this year to BE THE INSPIRATION. Having every club report its Foundation goal is inspirational; being a part of a District where every single club makes a contribution to The Rotary Foundation is inspirational. Complacency in our giving and failing to recognize the life changing impact that The Rotary Foundation has in our communities and across the world are not inspirational; it is mediocrity. This November, be thankful for INSPIRATION; don’t settle for anything less.
