Rotary is at its best when we foster a sense of inclusion and belonging in our clubs. In fact, I would go so far as to say that belonging is The Magic of Rotary itself.
With a focus on inclusivity and belonging, it is easier to be united in a common purpose. When we are committed to one another and focused on our goals, we are most effective.
Rotary’s Action Plan can help. The Action Plan comes with tools you can use to collect feedback, assess your club’s strengths and weaknesses, and address challenges.

Welcome to the first edition of “District Governor Kay’s Travel Adventures”
What does a District Governor do you might ask!
Let me tell you where I am at this week. I am sitting outside enjoying a little sunshine in Crookston, Minnesota. I have been attending RYLA. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp is an intensive leadership experience organized by our District to develop leadership skills while having fun and meeting new people.
Students build communication and problem-solving skills. They learn from community leaders, speakers, and peer mentors. These young leaders are our future!
Congratulations to the Wahpeton-Breckenridge Club on winning vests for their members via the exciting wheel of fortune spin, held during the June Club Call last Tuesday!
For future quarterly drawings, clubs will need to register for the drawing, but this quarter, only, all clubs had the opportunity to win vests for club members, which will attract positive attention when your club is serving the community.
Global Grant International Sponsor requests for financial partnering may come to the District International Service Chair (DISC) or directly to a club because of a previous relationship with that club. Remember that a Rotary Club in the host country is always involved in the Global Grant (GG) project.

What is a pollinator garden and why is it important?
A garden that features flowers that bloom throughout the summer and provide food to pollinators such as bees, butterflies and other species. Sadly pollinator population size and diversity is on the decline in North America due to habitat loss, invasive species, pesticides and disease.
Conserving pollinators is critical — and you can help! Plant your seeds or native flowering plants in your yard or balcony, take a photo by August 31 and submit to envirocomm5580@gmail.com. Your district environmental committee will choose a winner and the photos will be published in the September district newsletter.
A new club role, more support for Rotary’s young leaders
Rotary and Rotaract clubs can now designate a Programs for Young Leaders contact. And Interact club presidents can (with a parent’s consent) complete an optional self-registration form to receive resources and support directly from Rotary International. Both of these changes will help clubs and youth programs expand and grow stronger in part by enabling RI to distribute tools and information to club contacts. The Programs for Young Leaders contacts will stay connected with all of the youth programs their club sponsors, amplifying participants’ ideas and input and advocating for safe, inclusive programs. They will also serve as the main contact for any Interact clubs their club sponsors, attend Interact meetings, and find opportunities for Interactors to attend the sponsor club’s meetings and activities. “We Are Rotary” and “Vaccinating Every Child Under Five,” two new radio ads that show the public who we are and what we do, are now available in the Brand Center. You can download the ads in various formats for your promotional campaigns. “We Are Rotary” shows how our members solve problems and address community needs and invites others to take action with us. “Vaccinating Every Child Under Five” publicizes the effectiveness of vaccines and the steadfast work Rotary and our partners do to eradicate polio. The number one thing most clubs want to know is what is happening around the District, but we can't help spread the word if we don't know what your club is up to.
Please submit a summary of your club events, news and projects to Renae Ronquist and Gloria Mink by the 10th of each month. We can include information in our Monday Minutes and in our newsletter.
The Bismarck Rotary Club said goodbye to our Rotary Exchange Student Andrea (Ahn-DRAY-uh) at our meeting on June 26 - he is heading back to Sicily after an AMAZING year in Bismarck. Andrea is a fantastic kid who brought much joy, humor, and enthusiasm to the community, Century High School, and our Rotary club! Standing with Andrea are Dave and Karla Ehlis, Carl Jackson, and Brenna Gerhardt. Andrea stayed with the Ehlis and Jackson families while here and Brenna is our Exchange Student program coordinator.

Teachers observe their students displaying acts of kindness by word or by actions. At an end-of-year school ceremony, the teacher shares the reasons why they selected that deserving student in their class. Prior to recognizing the students, attendees are told about the world-wide focus of Rotary in doing acts of kindness such as building schools, medical clinics, providing school uniforms, and, equipping classrooms and hospitals with much needed equipment.
Adam was raised in Duluth. Attended Duluth East High School and graduated from UMD with a degree in Anthropology and Psychology. Adam married his beautiful bride, Megan, in 2011 and went on to have 3 boys ages 3,6, and 8. Adam returned to school to become a RN at St. Lukes and was manager of the inpatient mental health unit before having the opportunity to become an owner and manager of Happy Sleeper. Adam is on the board of the Glen Avon Hockey Club and coaches youth soccer and hockey. Adam enjoys spending his time with his family and taking his sons hunting, fishing, camping, and mountain biking
Jerry was a member of the Grand Rapids Rotary Club for 64 years and actively attending meetings and project work until mid-June of 2024.
Jerome (“Jerry”) L. Kleven, 97, passed away on June 27, 2024. Jerry grew up in Braham, MN and began working at an early age at Peterson’s Grocery. Notably, during his final two years of high school, the store was more than just his workplace; it was where he also resided after his parents moved to Minneapolis as his father found a new job there.
