One of Rotary’s founding principles was to use your vocation — whether as a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or another profession — to do good in the world. As we attempt to overcome and recover from the pandemic, this principle is vital in retraining people who have lost their jobs. In response, the Rotary E-Club of Tamar Hong Kong organized seminars for young people, with the aim of preparing them for the changing world of work.
Vocational Service remains at the heart of Rotary. In 1987-88, RI President Charles C. Keller reinvigorated the Avenue by appointing the first Vocational Service Committee in 50 years. The committee redefined how clubs could more effectively participate in Vocational Service and drafted the new Declaration of Rotarians in Businesses and Professions.

A One Rotary Summit (ORS) is designed for new and experienced Rotarians and Rotaractors to come together and share discussion about service opportunities and how Membership, Public Image, and Humanitarian Service through The Rotary Foundation are connected and work together in Rotary.
This year’s One Rotary Summit incorporates Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta’s Rotary theme, Serve to Change Lives, as well as the action priorities of Rotary’s Strategic Plan.
Why should you attend a One Rotary Summit? Because those attending will interact with other Rotarians to jointly discover and develop creative ways to achieve and sustain membership growth and retention, to increase Rotary Foundation giving and project engagement, and to gain enhanced public image in their communities.
For more than 100 years, Rotary has united leaders who are committed to using their expertise to improve communities. While we’ve made a significant difference around the world, many people still don’t fully understand who we are and what makes us unique. It’s important that we tell our story in ways that help people everywhere understand what Rotary does, how we’re different, and why our work matters.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! January is Rotary’s “Vocational Service” month. I’m often asked “What is vocational service?” Taking an excerpt from the January week 1 Monday minute, Vocational Service is described as:
“The Avenue of Service whereby Rotarians advance high ethical standards by being a positive example among colleagues in their community. They achieve this through personal commitment to high ethical standards in relations with customers, vendors, and business associates and treating each business interaction with care and consideration. Additionally, the promotion of socially and environmentally responsible practices in their businesses and organizations is another way Rotarians can manifest the spirit of Vocational Service.”
In support of your club's membership development and community outreach, the club will receive $100 for each new member who joins through June 30, 2022. The dollars are in place to help lower the cost to the new member and are to be used to directly offset the new member's dues.

WE CAN ONLY SHARE YOUR CLUB'S NEWS, IF WE KNOW ABOUT YOUR CLUB'S NEWS!
The number one thing most clubs want to know is what is happening around the District, but we can't help spread the word if we don't know what your club is up to.
Please submit a summary of your club events, news and projects to Gloria by the 10th of each month. We can include information in our Monday Minutes and in our newsletter.
